A margarita is a crisp and refreshing drink beloved by many. However, the process of making a margarita is a little annoying and can even be difficult to do. This may even be enough to deter someone from making a margarita, even if they really want one.
So, how can you make ready-to-drink margaritas? There are a few different options depending on how much you want to make and how much work you are willing to do. This article will explore these options and help guide you through the process.

Starting from Scratch
Making a margarita from scratch requires a little work. However, doing so allows you to fine-tune the drink to your exact specifications. This means the final product will be exactly what you are looking for.
To make a margarita from scratch:
- Start by preparing the glass. Find a margarita glass if you have one.
- Run a lime wedge along the glass’s rim, spreading a little lime juice around the rim as you go.
- Flip the glass upside down and dip the rim in a plate of salt. If you want to get really intense, you can even make your own margarita salt by adding whatever flavors you want to kosher salt.
Now, you can start preparing the actual drink.
- Combine an ounce and a half of blanco tequila, an ounce of triple sec, and half an ounce of fresh-squeezed lime juice in a cocktail shaker.
- Shake well and pour the mixture into the prepared glass.
- If you want, you can then garnish the glass with a lime wedge.
Making a Batch
While making a single margarita from scratch isn’t too difficult, it can be annoying if you have to prepare margaritas for a large group. Making more than one will get tiring and take a lot of time. Plus, if you are hosting a party or some other gathering, there is a decent chance you are dealing with hosting stress already. You don’t want to add more things to do by having to spend the evening mixing drinks.
This is why many people choose to make margaritas in large batches. Doing so will ensure that you have ready-to-drink margaritas for an extended period of time.
To do this:
- Start with a pitcher or other large container.
- In this container, add two cups of blanco tequila, three-fourths of a cup of lime juice, and one cup of triple sec.
- Fill the container with ice. You can also choose to sweeten the mixture with a little simple syrup or add some flair to the presentation by throwing a few lime wedges into the pitcher.

However, it is important to note that you should not add ice to your pre-prepared mixture until you are ready to serve it. Making the drink the night before and adding ice right away will force you to add more ice the next day. Ice will dilute the flavor of the drink, so adding too much is not ideal. Because of this, only add ice right before you plan to drink your margarita mix.
When serving, make sure to prepare margarita glasses in the same way you would prepare them for a single serving. All you have to do now is pour your ready-to-drink margarita mix into these pre-prepared glasses.
Pre-Made Margaritas
If you are looking for an even easier way to prepare margaritas, you can use pre-made margarita mixes. These often look like bottles of tequila and will be found in the same places. However, these are already mixed and, thus, are completely ready to drink.
When dealing with this option, you have a lot of different margarita types to choose from. You can go with a classic lime margarita, which we’ve already given ways to make on this list. However, you can also go with something more elaborate that will be noticeably different from the traditional approach.
For example, at Rancho La Gloria, we offer a wide variety of margarita mixes. These include a strawberry margarita, blueberry margarita, peach margarita, green apple margarita, and many more. We even offer a classic lime margarita mix.
On top of this, you can also choose to pick a skinny margarita mix. These are similar to regular margarita mixes and will often taste almost exactly the same. However, they have fewer calories in them and, thus, are better for those watching their caloric intake.

Adding to Pre-Made Margaritas
Making your own margarita mixes allows you to alter the recipe to suit your individual tastes. Meanwhile, pre-made margaritas require far less work and are typically delicious on their own. This means that both options have their own strengths and weakness. Neither is necessarily the best option overall.
Luckily, there is a middle ground between making margaritas from scratch and relying on a pre-made mixture. By starting with a pre-made margarita and using it as the base for your own recipe, you can eliminate some of the work while still having room to fine-tune the overall drink.

The options here are numerous. If you want, you can simply add a single new ingredient to a pre-made margarita in a way that adds more flavor. For example, muddling a little mint into a lime margarita will give it a twist that feels like a mojito. However, you can also create an entire cocktail around the basis of a pre-made margarita.
One example cocktail is the Skinny B*tch Summer. For this, start with three ounces of Rancho La Gloria’s skinny strawberry margarita. Mix this with one ounce of pomegranate juice and a splash of prosecco. Then, garnish the finished drink with limes and fresh pomegranate arils. This is a relatively easy process to follow, but it produces a drink with a level of depth and complexity.
